You are literally betting the next shot on the stiffness of the stock, on whether or not your barreled receiver settled into the same position, to be supported the same way day in and day out, year after year. No kidding, no wonder it won't shoot! If it does shoot, think of how much better it could be with a quality stock! Soft stocks allow the receiver to move under the torque and force of recoil, vary point of impact with the type of surface it is rested upon, warp and deform under temperature extremes, etc., etc., etc. Grab that factory tupperware stocked rifle, hold the barrel and pull down on the forend. #1 Rule of Riflestocks - the Stiffer the Better Howa 1500/Weatherby Vanguard Stock and Barrel Combo.Winchester 70 Stock and Bottom Metal Combos.Rem 700 Stock, Barrel and Magazine Combo.Accublock® NextGen™ Carbon Fiber Stocks. It isnt the best looking riser but it is comfortable and doesnt damage the rifle in any way. Now I have perfect eye relief and cheek weld. I cut a 1 inch wide strip off of the bed mat and then cut it into strips about 4 inched long.Īt that point i stacked them until I had the perfect height, taped them together and wrapped them tightly to the stock so they wouldnt move. I changed it up a little bit but alot of you guys will probably have this stuff laying around. I shopped around for cheek risers but they were all more than I wanted to pay and would require drilling my stock. Thus fixed the eye relief issue but I still had a problem with the comb height. So when I remounted my scope today I took my time and set the scope furthur back. This resulted in an extremely uncomfortable shooting position that I dealt with for awhile because I was too lazy to adjust the scope. This created an issue with eye relief plus the comb height just wasn't enough to get a good cheek weld. When I had first installed my old scope a long time ago I installed it a little too far forward. I recieved a scope yesterday and in my excitment to mount it I didnt realize it would not fit in the 1 piece mount already on my crosman phantom. So before I get into here's a little back story. I thought I would share a simple diy cheek riser I discovered today.
